The British era police station built in 1894 in Yercaud has been renovated and opened by Superintendent of Police Mr. Sivakumar.
The building with a tiled roof was dilapidated due to ageing. It was proposed to demolish it and build a new building. But by local history buffs wanted the historic building should remain as a memory of the old times.
Following this a new building was built next to it where the police station now functions.
The old building remained in damaged condition for eight years. After taking charge of the police station inspector Senthil Raj Mohan, took steps to bring back the old charm to thedilapidated old police station building.
With contrbution from Tiruveni Group, the police station building built in 1894 has been renovated. It has been decided to allow tourists to visit the British era building. The renovated building was inaugurated yesterday by District Superintendent of Police Sivakumar in the presence of Deputy Rural Superintendent Thayalanaiki.
In this event Sub Inspectors Sabapathi, Anandakumar, Gopal, CID and Thiruveni Tamilvanan, Mestri Vasudevan, and the public participated.
