15-day skill development programme for rural women organised in Coimbatore

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM) in Coimbatore, in partnership with the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), recently concluded a 15-day skill development program for rural women. This initiative, which has been running for two years, has empowered over 160 women with free training in "Pattern Making and Garment Construction." Today, the eighth batch of twenty women successfully completed their training.
During the valedictory function, Dr. P Alli Rani, Director of SVPISTM, emphasised the transformative impact of skill development on women's empowerment. She encouraged the trainees to leverage their newfound skills for financial independence. Certificates were distributed to the trainees, acknowledging their dedication and hard work throughout the program.

Women’s empowerment is critical for gender equality, economic growth, and social development. Empowered women enhance the workforce, improve family and community welfare, and help reduce poverty. The SVPISTM and GIZ initiative equips women with essential skills, fostering financial independence and elevating their social status.

Financial independence grants women autonomy and breaks dependency cycles, leading to long-term economic stability and community development. SVPISTM’s program prepares women for stable employment or entrepreneurship in the textile industry, enabling them to invest in local economies and promote overall growth.

SVPISTM continues to organise programs that promote women's empowerment by providing insights into subsidies and schemes offered by state and central governments to support women entrepreneurs. These initiatives help rural women gain the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the textile and garment industry, promoting economic growth and self-reliance.
