Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin launched TN Pasumai Iyakkam today in Vandalur. Under the scheme, 7 lakh saplings will be planted in Erode district this year and 20 lakh next year, said Housing Minister Muthusamy said while planting saplings at the Erode collector's office.
He said that today 4000 saplings have been planted in the district. This government is taking appropriate measures to protect the environment. It is planned to increase the green area of the state from 23.27 percent to 33 percent by 2030.
Erode district has 39 percent green area. Many trees were uprooted in Sathy road expansion work.
Ten saplings will be planted in place of each tree. There is no complete success in uprooting and planting the fully grown trees. It was alleged that a DMK councilor of Erode Corporation had destroyed a park in his area. In fact, there was no sewerage facility in the area. He took steps for it. But, public staged protest. Enquiry will be held to take suitable action on the issue.
Non DTCP approved plots purchased before 2016 should also have public utility places like roads, parks water tanks etc before getting approval.
The government has ordered not to register plots without DTCP approval. A study is on to build flyovers at Vendi Palayam and Perundurai road, in Erode city.
Erecting sewage treatment project for tannery and dyeing units is being studied. Stone quarries must be operated as per rule or else they will be closed. New bus station will function at Solarvshortly. The value of the land in Choolai area is high. Even then, bus stand will come up there. The exit of senior DMK leader Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan from the party is regrettable, he said.
