The Supreme Court has given a sensational verdict that 10 percent reservation will go to economically backward upper classes. In the five judges sitting bench, 3 have given judgment in favour and 2 others including the Chief Justice not in favour.
With this judgement, the 103rd Constitutional Amendment Act, which paved the way for economic-based reservation, will find validity. Although parties like BJP, Congress and Trinamool Congress have welcomed this verdict, as expected, there has been widespread opposition to this verdict in Tamil Nadu. Many parties including DMK, PMK, VCK, Communists, AMMK, MNM and Dravidar Kazhagam have protested and criticized.
K. Veeramani aptly explains that ``This is a social injustice that pushes out the oppressed hungry people and sends the, advanced caste poor people to feast inside.'' Where are the statistics? Where is the proof? As he asked.
The DMK and the VCK have announced that they will file a review petition against the verdict and have taken up the legal battle. And CM Stalin has convened a meeting of all party leaders to discuss this.
The first step is to file review petitions in the Supreme Court...urgently...very urgently!
