AAP to be completed within Feb 15: Minister

The long pending Rs 1756.88 cr Athikadavu Avinasi Project works will be completed within Feb 15, said Housing Minister S Muthusamy.  Inspecting the head works of the project at Kalingarayan check dam,  near Bavani, on Wednesday, he said that 8 99 percent of civil works in all 6 pumping houses and 106 km stretch main pipeline works were full completed. All 1045 tanks were also linked with main pipelines. 

A few remaining works would be completed within Jan 30 and trial run would be completed within Feb 15. At least, 750 tanks would be linked immediately under the project. If there is problem in pumping water to the tanks, it would also be rectified and then CM would be invited to inaugurate the project. 

At present,  TNEB power would be used and then 32 mw power would be produced through solar panels. The previous rule didn't envisage the compensation  for the ryots under the project for using their land in laying pipelines. Now, talks were going on with the ryots to settle their dues.

 A second phase of the project would be envisaged to link the excluded tanks. Around 1.5 tmc water would be pumped in the dam for 70 days in a year to 1045 tanks in Erode, Tirupur and Coimbatore districts helping aound 26000 acre land to get water through groundwater sources,  he added.
