After AIADMK’s expelled leader O Panneerselvam moved the Supreme Court with an appeal to set aside the Madras High Court’s order of handing over the possession of AIADMK’s headquarters to Edappadi K Palaniswami. The revenue department, in July, had sealed the AIADMK headquarters following a clash between the supporters of Palaniswami and Panneerselvam, and it had resulted in vandalism and violence around the office.
The clash erupted after a resolution to form single-leadership was passed unanimously during the general council meeting of the party on July 11. Both of them had approached the High Court challenging the proceedings to seal the office.
Palaniswami blamed Panneerselvam for the violence and termed him as the ‘stooge’ of DMK.
He further alleged that Panneerselvam had stolen records from the party office and broke open the chamber used by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa. While hearing the petitions filed by both Panneerselvam and Palaniswami, a bench of Justice N Sathish Kumar said that the court registry will have to move through Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari as both of them are members of the assembly.
He directed the government to handover the office keys to Palaniswami after prohibiting party cadres from entering the office for a month. Challenging it, Panneerselvam on Friday appealed before the Supreme Court urging them to set aside the High Court direction. Immediately, Palaniswami filed a caveat petition before the court.
