There was a fierce fight between Edappadi K. Palanisamy(EPS) and O. Panneerselvam (OPS) in holding the leadership post in AIADMK. This split the party into two.
It is said that most of the party office bearers are on EPS’s side and most of the cadres are on the side of OPS. Due to this both the AIADMK factions are competing for the party symbol and other party goodwill assets. Both sides have approached the court and the Election Commission.
At the same time, EPS’ side has been more successful in the legal battle in the court. But OPS is not giving up. He has taken up the ultimate struggle.
O. Panneerselvam went to Delhi to participate in the nomination process of the BJP alliance candidate Droupadi Murmu who contested the presidential election. At that time, it was said that he tried to meet Prime Minister Modi alone and did not get a chance.
After that, Edappadi Palaniswami, who had gone to Delhi a few days ago to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the new President, also tried to meet Prime Minister Modi.
But, he was also not allocated time. In this context, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Chennai on a two day visit to participate in the opening ceremony of the Chess Olympiad. He was received at the airport by Edappadi Palaniswami as the leader of the opposition.
O. Panneerselvam went to the airport to see off the Prime Minister who went to Ahmedabad yesterday after completing his two day trip. When he met the Prime Minister at the airport, he asked
O. Panneerselvam, 'How is your health?'
While the Prime Minister did not meet them in Delhi, there were reports that both OPS and EPS may meet him separately during his visit to Chennai. But, no such personal meeting took place.
In 2017, when both OPS and EPS were functioning separately, Prime Minister Modi intervened and used his influence to bury their hatchet. AIADMK activists were expecting that the Prime Minister would similarly try to keep the two teams together.
However, the Prime Minister has not met both of them and has been consulting with his party leaders for a long time. At that time, Modi had advised the BJP to shun AIADMK and act without worrying about what happens to the party in Tamil Nadu.
This has caused great disappointment among AIADMK leaders and volunteers.
Now the big question that remains is, What will be the status of AIADMK & BJP alliance?
