After 40 years, the alumni of 1978-82 batch of B.Sc. Agri. (Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University) had a reunion on Oct 21 in the University campus.
Those who were unable to come in person joined the meet virtually. Out of 112 students of the 1982 batch, 20 reached the lotus feet of God. A large number of this batch (64) joined and served the Department of Agriculture and 6 rose to the highest position in the Department of Agriculture, Additional Director of Agriculture, 8 Joint Directors, 21 Deputy Directors, and 14 Assistant Directors.
14 got doctorates and 2 post-doctorates. All of them were shining as Professor & Heads at the TNAU and 7 were shining as Deans in various agriculture colleges/universities. One of them, Dr. RM Kathiresan, has become the Vice Chancellor of Annamalai University in 2021. Also, Dr. Suresh Chandra Babu serves as a senior policy advisor at International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington DC, and advises 23 countries, including India, on Food Security and Climate Change issues.
The batch offered a cheque for Rs 6 Lakhs to Dr. K. Seetharaman, Registrar and Dr. Angayarkanni, Dean of Agriculture, as a donation (See photo) for improving the infrastructure of the Faculty of Agriculture. In 2012 these classmates met after 30 years of passing out and have set up a fund to present a gold medal to the first rank holder in Agriculture in under-graduation to encourage excellence in the field and to bring more laurels to their Alma mater.
The Coordination committee member Chidambaram, Syndicate Members Dr. Arang. Pari, Dr. Gnanadevan, and Dr. Murukappan, were present.
