The Women Development Center and NSS of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, in collaboration with Sri Ramakrishna Hospital organized an awareness programme on breast cancer on the occasion of Breast Cancer Month at the college. Principal and Secretary of the College Dr. PL Sivakumar presided.
The chief guest Sri Ramakrishna Cancer Treatment and Research Center Medical Director Dr. P. Gugan said, “October is being observed as breast cancer awareness month. Prevention of breast cancer is better than cure. Advanced technologies have arrived to detect this.
Women should be educated about the risk of breast cancer. Rather than genetics, changes in our lifestyle, changes in eating habits, and lack of awareness about physical health are the causes of breast cancer," he added. Dr. S. Bhargavi, cancer treatment surgeon, said, “Young women and middle-aged women are affected by cancer. So, it is better for women to get regular check-ups. A lot of technologies have come. It can easily be cured. Although this disease is curable, it is better to prevent it before it occurs,” he said.
Arrangements for this were made by Dr. S. Pragatheeswaran, NSS Programme Officer, and Dr. G. Kavita, Head of Women's Development Center. Earlier, Women's Development Center Student President R. Arthi welcomed and Student Secretary A. Shreya gave vote of thanks.
