This year, the Northeast Monsoon is intensifying. The severe downpours that overwhelmed four districts, including Chennai, at the start of this month are currently battering the districts in the south. The southern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tenkasi, have been battered by intense rain since yesterday. People's daily lives are utterly immobilized. The southern district's dams are rapidly filling up as a result of the nonstop rain that began last night. Following the Tamiraparani River's flooding, M.K. Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, spoke with the minister of water resources and representatives of the water resources department over the transfer of surplus water in the Tamiraparani - &Karumeniaru - &Nambiaru River Link Project. 1,000 cubic feet of water were discharged from the Kannadian dam into the flood canal as part of a water test in accordance with the decision made during this consultation.

Surplus water has been opened and the century old dream of the farmers living in the dry areas of Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts has been put into operation.
In the last year 2006, during the reign of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, administrative approval was given for the project of Tamirabarani& - Karumeniyar - &Nambiar river connection. The project started in 2009.
In the context of the completion of the works, it has been decided to use the surplus water for this trial run, as it is currently raining continuously due to the northeast monsoon.
Farmers of the area are going to benefit from this.23,040 hectares of land including 17,002 hectares of new area will be irrigated through this project.
Legislative assembly constituencies, Palayankottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram in Nellai district and Srivaikundam and Thiruchendurconstituencies in Thoothukudi district will be benefited. 32 villages, 177 ponds, 2,657 wells in Nellai district and 18 villages, 75 ponds, 2,563 wells in Tuticorin district, a total of 50 villages, 252 ponds, 5,220 wells will be benefited.
Chief Minister M.K.Stalin is going to inaugurate these projects soon and he has heartily appreciated by the agriculturists. The Chief Minister deserves appreciations too.
