Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated a new kind of 230/110kv gas insulated switch gear power sub station at Erode TNEB head office through video conferencing method on Monday. Housing Minister S Muthusamy, Mayor Nagarathinam Subramaniam and top TNEB officials attended the function at Erode.
The officials said that ''normally, 10 acre land and Rs 20 cr needed for open air ordinary sub station. But, due to space constraint, the sub station based on gas insulated switch gear was erected in just 70 cent of land in Erode TNEB office. But, the cost of project is Rs 80.26 cr. Though the cost is high, the maintenance cost is low. In the open air sub stations, birds could hit causing accidents. But, the gas insulated switch gear station is within a building.
This kind of stations were existed in over 10 places in Chennai and next to Chennai, here only, the new type of station was established. This kind of station would normally be established in places where the land cost is high. The power from the sub station would be transmitted to nine 110 kv sub stations.
It would improve the quality of power supply, ensure growth of industry, agriculture in and Erode town, reduce transmission loss, help handle upto 200 megawatt power, meet the future needs of Erode East, West, Modakurichi and Perundurai segments and benefit over 5 lakh people, they added.
