CM presents Rs 42 lakhs for basketball players

Chief Minister MK Stalin invited the basketball players and athletes who won gold in the national level championships to the General Secretariat, congratulated them and gave them a cash reward of Rs 42 lakh.

A statement issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu states: Chief minister Mk Stalin handed over the highest incentive of Rs 42 lakhs for the Tamil Nadu basketball teams for having won the  71st National Basketball Championship -Rs 30 lakhs for the men’s team that won the gold medal and Rs 12 lakhs for the women’s team that won the bronze medal.

The 71st National Senior Basketball Championship 2022 was held from 3.04.2022 to 10.04.2022 at the Chennai Nehru Indoor Stadium on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association, recognized by the Indian Basketball Association.

31 teams qualified for the tournament with the participation of various teams from 32 states. Of these, 16 teams in the men's division and 15 teams in the women's division participated. Tamil Nadu won the gold medal in the men's final against Punjab, on April 10. In the women's category, the Tamil Nadu women's team won the bronze medal against Kerala.

The Chief Minister lauded the players who excelled in the 71st National Basketball Championship and added national pride to Tamil Nadu.

He handed over cheques for a total of Rs 30 lakhs to 12 players of the men’s team with a  split of up of Rs 2.5 lakhs each and Rs 12 lakhs for the women's basketball team at a rate of Rs 1 lakh each.

 He also extended his congratulations to all the coaches and basketball club executives who worked tirelessly for the success of the teams. Thus it was said.
