Coimbatore artist creates awareness about dangers of packet alcohol

The recent incident in Kallakurichi, where more than 55 people died after consuming illegal liquor, has caused widespread shock and condemnation from various political leaders and the public towards the Tamil Nadu government. In response to this tragedy, UMT Raja, a jewellery designer from the Kuniyamuthur area of Coimbatore, has created a clay statue titled "Packet liquor is the Cause of Death." The statue features a sample liquor packet tied to a rope, symbolising the lethal consequences of consuming illegal alcohol.

UMT Raja explained that the statue serves as a way to offer solace to the partners, children, and parents of those who lost their lives to illegal liquor. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol consumption. He emphasised the importance of living for one's family and urged people to avoid alcohol, which he described as a selfish and harmful indulgence.
