Shashank Abilash is a 6th standard student at Sri Vivekananda Public School in Sulur, Coimbatore. He has been training at the Adventure Academy of Martial Arts Karate Academy since last 2018. He has participated in various competitions and won gold, silver and bronze medals.
He won the gold medal in the sub-junior category at the state and district level karate competitions held in 2019 and thereby participated in the national level karate competition on behalf of Tamil Nadu and won the bronze medal.
He has also been training in the categories of Katta, Team Katta and Kumite with the aim of competing in the Olympics. The Academy Award for Best Student was given in recognition of his continued achievements.
Coimbatore Chief Education Officer Geetha presented him with the award. School founder Padmini Ramamurthy, school principal Malathi Gopinath, Tamil Nadu Sports Karate Association president Sensei S. Saibruz, Tamil Nadu Sports Karate Association RC president Sensai Arivazhagan and coach Nasserudeen also lauded and congratulated him for his achievements.
