Erode District Collector Rajagopal Sunkara visited Vilamkombai hilly village and said that a vehicle will be arranged to take the children there to the schools.
There are about 200 tribal people living in the village under Kongarpalayam Panchayat, Gobi taluk, Erode District. To reach this village, there is a transport facility up to Vinoba Nagar near Gunderipallam. After that, one has to walk for 8 km through the dense forest to reach the village. There are 31 children of school going age in this village. In the year 2007, an NGO named Sudar arranged a vehicle to go to Vinoba Nagar Middle School. But in 2010, the land bridges were swept away in the wild floods, and the education of these children was interrupted. As a result, children who went to school became laborers.
Two of them died. Following this, in 2014, a Child Labor Special School was started in this village with the help of the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Central Government through Sudar. The Central government has also closed the school in 2022. Last year, among the students studying here, 21 were admitted to Vinoba Nagar Middle School and 10 were admitted to Kongarpalayam Government High School. Students were taken to school in a private vehicle. Once again the track was destroyed due to wild floods and again the studies of the students were disrupted. Collector Rajagopal Sunkara conducted an inspection in the Vilamkombai village on Tuesday. Then, he told reporters: 47 tribal families are living in the village. Out of these, houses have been constructed under the Chief Minister's Green House Scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 3 lakh each for 36 families who have received certificates. Out of 31 students in this village, 21 are studying in Vinoba Nagar Panchayat Union Middle School and 10 are studying in Kongarpalayam Government Higher Secondary School. A vehicle will be arranged for their easy access to schools. He said that ration shop goods are being distributed directly to the people through a vehicle on behalf of the civil supplies department.
