Following the tragic death by drowning in the Cauvery river at Mettur on Friday, S.Karmegam, Salem Collector has cautioned parents to take precautions while children got to bathe in water bodies.On Friday ten year old girls Pavithra, daughter of Periyasamy and his brother Murugesan's daughter Kamatchi, both from Sethukuzhi near Kolathur drowned in the Cauvery when the went there to wash clothes and bathe.
It may be recalled that 5 girls drowned to death in Gadilam river in Cudalore last week.
Salem Collector in his warning has said that as water bodies are getting filled with rains in the district, parents should ensure that children go the water bodies only under the supervision of parents. Children's safety must be ensured when they go to the water bodies.
Parents should sensitize children about the dangers of bathing or swimming in the water bodies without precautions. As holidays are going on for schools and colleges children may visit new places and go to water bodies. Unfamiliar with the place they go to deeper parts of the water and they meet danger. Parents should hence continuously monitor the children, the collector has said.
The district administration has been issuing caution based on the Chief Minister's advisory on June 5, 2022. Panchayats and the PWD Department officials have been advised to put up warning boards near the water bodies, the Collector has said.
