Collector holds panchayat presidents meeting

Coimbatore Collector Dr GS Sameeran held a consultation meeting with the village panchayat presidents at the Collectorate on Tuesday.

DRDA project director N Kavitha, assistant director N Umadevi, and PA (development) to Collector Kamalakannan attended. 

The meeting was held to hear the views of presidents 228 panchayats in 12 blocks. In his speech, Collector said the presidents, serving at grassroot level, should coordinate all development works of state government. The works and welfare schemes were being carried out through local bodies alone. 

The presidents should take steps to improve the financial position  of the local body and carry out water supply, street light and road works to make the panchayat self sufficient, he advised.
