Collector inaugurates massive tree planting work

 District Collector 
H. Krishnanunni on Friday inaugurated the work of planting 35,000 saplings in government schools in Erode district on the occasion of World Earth Day.


World Earth Day is observed annually on April 22.  In this connection, the school education department has taken steps to plant saplings in government schools in the  district.


The inauguration ceremony was held at Erode Government Girls' Higher Secondary School on Friday.  The function was presided over by District Chief Education Officer Ramakrishnan.   District Collector H. Krishnanunni participated in the function and planted saplings.  There were 800 saplings planted on 2,500 square feet to form the adarvanam. 


In addition, 800 saplings each will be planted in 40 government schools in Erode district to set up adarvanam.  A further 95 schools are planting saplings under the scheme.  A total of 35,000 saplings will be planted in 135 schools.  Similarly, terrace gardening is being set up in 395 schools.
District Education Officer Jothi Chandra and School Headmaster Sukanti were also present on the occasion.
