Collector pays homage to the body of organ donor

District Collector Dr. GS Sameeran paid homage to the body of  Hariharan, 23, of Valparai, who was killed in a road accident and donated his organ to many.

Dr. GS Sameeran laid a wreath on Hariharan's body at the Government Medical College Hospital. Government officials including Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital Chief Dr Nirmala also paid their respects.
Hariharan was involved in a road accident while traveling in a two-wheeler at 6 pm on April 16 and was admitted to nearby hospital and then shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in a life-threatening condition at 3.20 am on April 17.

Despite treatment by many specialists, he suffered with brain death condition on April 18. The doctors who confirmed this explained the organ donation to Harikaran's relatives.  Based on the consent of the relatives and the desire to donate the organs, an immediate organ donation operation was performed.

Accordingly, one of his 2 kidneys was donated to a patient undergoing dialysis at Coimbatore 
Government Medical College Hospital and the other kidney was donated to a patient undergoing dialysis at Salem Government Medical College Hospital. 

The liver was donated to a private hospital in Coimbatore.  Both eyes of Harikaran are to be donated to Arvind Eye Hospital for the benefit of two blind persons who are undergoing treatment.  Funeral services were held on behalf of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for Harikaran's body.  District Collector Dr. GS Sameeran  thanked Harikaran's mother and relatives who donated the organs.
