Coimbatore District Collector Dr. G.S. Sameeran held a review meeting on Green Tamil Nadu project regarding increasing the green area in the district at Coimbatore District Collector's Office. District Forest Officer Ashokumar, Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Kavitha and many officials attended the meeting. The Chief Minister has implemented the project to protect the environment in Tamil Nadu and expand the green cover from 23.8 to 33 percent. In collaboration with the DRDA, indigenous tree saplings will be planted in the areas adjacent to the forest area.
To coordinate and monitor this work, the CM appointed officials under the leadership of the Principal Conservator of Forests. The group is undertaking afforestation work in forest areas and outside forest areas, afforestation in agricultural lands along with agricultural crops to increase income opportunities, promoting the growing biodiversity with community, public and private participation through the Green Tamil Nadu movement. The District Collector conducted a detailed study with the Forest Department and DRDA officials regarding the measures to be taken on the project.
