In the Prime Minister's Thirunthia Crop Insurance Scheme, the insurance premium for paddy crop has been fixed at Rs.555 per acre, said Erode District Collector H. Krishnanunny. He said the scheme provides financial support to farmers to protect against unexpected losses, stabilize farm income and encourage adoption of advanced technologies and is being implemented in all the districts of Tamil Nadu.
It will be implemented by Agricultural Insurance Company of India Limited during the current Samba season in the district. Paddy crop notification has been made at Firkha level for the current Samba season. A total of 28 Firkhas have been notified in the district. All farmers belonging to all revenue villages under the notified firkhas can benefit under the scheme.
Farmers availing loan can register for crop insurance in the PACBs or Nationalized Banks.The non-loan farmers should obtain the crop cultivation certificate from the VAOs. Along with this, the first page copy of bank pass book, copy of Aadhaar card and Chitta should be registered through Public Service Centers or PACBs or Nationalized Banks by November 15 to join the scheme.
