Dalit outfits plan to hold Pollan Memorial Day function separately

Maaveeran Pollan Varalaru Meetpu Kuzhu meeting was held under the leadership of its president Vadivel Raman at Erode on Saturday.

In the meeting, various dalit outfit leaders R Ambedkar, R Sindhanai Selvan, Sagunthala Thangaraj, Pon Sundaram, Viswanathan, MP Muthusamy, and many others decided to observe freedom fighter and Deeran Chinnamalai's chieftain Pollan's  Memorial Day at Nallamangapalayam near Arachalur on July 17 as he was shot dead by the British in that village by 1805 as per the historical book penned by scholar Dr S Raju.  Pollan (1755-1805) along with Deeran fought against British in many battles. Following our request, the HC, in 2019, ordered to hold government function every year to honour his sacrifice. Since then, the government arranged a Memorial Day function at a community hall in Modakurichi though all dalit outfits and political parties wanted such function at Nallamangapalayam where he was killed by British.
