Deputy speaker releases water from Shenbagathoppu dam for irrigation

Tamil Nadu legislative assembly deputy speaker K Pichandi released water for irrigation from Shenbagathoppu reservoir in Thiruvannamalai district and planted saplings.
Construction of irrigation assistant residence renovation of Aliabad dam, road rehabilitation at Aliabad and Shenbagathoppu dams and renovation of head sluices in Aliabad main canal has been carried out at the cost of Rs 13.44 crore. From the dams, 48 lakes need to be filled for irrigation purposes. So, the state government has decided to release about 175.80 cusecs of water for about 8350.40 acres of agricultural land. While releasing water, Pichandi said, “The person who brought the dam to Tiruvannamalai district, which depends on agriculture, is Dr Muthamizharinagar Kalaignar. So, farmers should use this water in a good way and get more yield.”
The district collector Sajeshbabu, MP CN Annadurai, MLA PSD Saravanan, executive engineer of water resources department M Shanmugam, assistant executive engineers Govindaraj and Selvaraj, Chandavasal forest officer Sakthivel and others were present at the event.
