Diffables seek 5 percent quota in Parliament, Assembly seats

The Erode District Diffables Welfare Association has demanded 5 percent quota for differetly abled people in the parliament, assembly and local body seats. Twelfth annual general council meeting of the association was held today under the chairmanship of district president S Durairaj in Erode. 

It sought a minimum monthly allowance of Rs 3000 to all categories of diffables, supply of battery-powered scooter to those who obtained it 15 years back,and 10 years ago,  battery-powered wheelchair for paraplegic with both legs and arms affected persons, 

old pension and time scale for diffables in government service, job for more than one diffable person in NREGS round the year, filling up jobs reserved for diffables in  Central, state governments and local bodies, education fee concession for children of diffables in higher studies, vocational training and rehabilitation centre for mentally  retarded persons above 14 years of age and destitute persons with disabilities in all districts, house sites or houses for all diffables who do not own a house or a house, toilets for them in all government officials, ID cards for diffabled roadside vendors/traders, allotment of 5 percent of shops in  commercial complexes of local bodies, and sports training grounds for the differently abled.

Association Executives V Murali, Palanivel, E Senthil Kumar, Ira Navaneethakrishnan, S Ruban were present. In this event, differently abled teachers M Sukanti, D Jebus, M. Loganathan, S Srinivasan were honoured.
