The Coimbatore district administration and city corporation conducted a joint inspection on Wednesday regarding the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project near the Textool bridge. The inspection was attended by Coimbatore Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Joint General Manager of the Metro Project Narendra Kumar, Coimbatore MP Ganapathi Rajkumar, and Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran.
Commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran stated that this was a preliminary inspection before the upcoming board meeting on January 31. The main goal was to finalise the land acquisition process along Sathyamangalam Road for both the highway improvement project and the Metro Rail project.
He mentioned that Rs. 56 crore had been sanctioned for a 3 km highway improvement project. This includes acquiring 20 meters of land for 1 km from Textool bridge to Surya Hospital. Since the Metro Rail project also requires land acquisition, it was suggested to extend the land acquisition to 24 meters, combining both projects for better efficiency. Officials inspected the area to assess the feasibility of this plan, and a final decision will be made during the Board Committee meeting.
Additionally, the National Highway Department has requested that the land acquisition process for the 1 km stretch be prioritised due to its urgency, while the Metro Rail project’s land acquisition is expected to take more time.
