DMDK treasurer Premalatha Vijayakanth has warned that her party will stage a massive stir if the steep rise in prices of cotton and yarn is not controlled immediately by the government.
Heading a demonstration of the party at Veerappanchathram, Erode, on Friday, against price rise, she said ''many have lost their jobs due to the rise in cotton and yarn prices. Last year, a candy (356 kg cotton) was sold for Rs 50000. At present, the price rose to Rs1.15 lakh. The price of yarn should be controlled immediately. Hoarding should be prevented. Cotton exports should be curtailed just as wheat exports were curtailed due to rising prices. The price of the cotton should be reduced to Rs 50,000.
Today many yarn mills are closed due to unavailability of cotton. When similar problem arose, Vijayakanth provided Rs 10 lakh aid to weavers. Today the price of all commodities such as petrol, diesel and cotton has gone up. DMDK is the only party which fights for the problems of the people. The DMK has come to power with many false promises. The Amma Unavagams are on the verge of closure. Any project that benefits the people must be continued. If need be, the unavagam can be named after Karunanidhi. DMK promised women will be given Rs 1000 every month.
Jewelry loan will be fully waived .Everyone will be offered employment. Neet will be abolished. But, nothing was done. When asked RS Barathi said DMK manifesto was created by TR Balu. So, he could alone be replied on poll promises. If it is so, let the CM Post be given to Balu, she said and strongly condemned Barathi.
When Prime Minister Modi had arrived in Chennai yesterday, the Chief Minister insisted that Kachatheevu must be restored. Kachchhati. It was given to Lanka during Karunanidhi rule alone. Now his son claimed it.
But, DMDK raised the demand for the past many years. Today the debt of Tamil Nadu has gone up from Rs 3 lakh crore to Rs 6 lakh crore. Today all departments including Transport, Revenue, TNEB are running at a loss. If DMDK is given a chance to rule the state, it would clear the debt fully by seizing the wealth of councillors to ministers of DMK and AIADMK who amassed wealth for 4 generations, she said. Party District Secretary Anand, Chairman Kumaraswamy Treasurer Balaji and many others were present.
