A defamation case was filed against the BJP state president K Annamalai before the principal session court in the city for publishing an article that aims at tarnishing the reputation of Chief Minister MK Stalin.
The case was filed by government prosecutor G Devarajan on behalf of the Chief Minister.
On April 14, Annamalai released ‘DMK files’ listing the corruption details of various DMK functionaries including the Chief Minister, MPs and ministers. The DMK had dismissed them as baseless allegations and sought a public apology from Annamalai.
They also warned of taking legal action against him if he fails to apologize. Since Annamalai refused to extend an apology, DMK has moved the court. The petition said, “The Chief Minister has been announcing various welfare schemes for the public and he has a good reputation among the public. In this situation, BJP president Annamalai has baseless allegations with an intention to ruin his reputation. So, action should be taken against Annamalai under section 500 of IPC.” The petition is likely to come up for hearing before the vacation bench of the Madras High Court. When it came up for hearing, the Court adjourned it for hearing after eight weeks.
