Indian educationist and philanthropist late Dr N Mahalingam was hailed for his selfless services in various spheres, especially the education sector, and for enriching the lives of the people.
Speaking at “the Dr Mahalingam Muthu Vizha Endowment Lecture,” the Chief Guest Dr M Manickam, Chairman and Managing Director, Sakthi Sugars Limited, recalled in detail the visionary’s works in the education sector.
Stressing the importance of education, he said the youth had tremendous potential to rapidly develop the country and it can be achieved only through imparting proper education to them.
The function was organised by the Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women and the Kumaraguru College of Technology yesterday.

T S K Meenatchisundaram underlined the importance of education for women and pointed out that the illustrious college was founded by late Mr Avinaslingam for this very purpose. He strongly believed that only educated women can help a household run properly and contribute to the development of a country. Both formal education and the wisdom to raise questions go hand in hand and will help one become knowledgeable, he stressed.
He said Dr Mahalingam’s immense love for the Tamil language had inspired him to write and publish several books. He followed the footsteps of the great Tamil saint Vallalar and set up several spiritual centres in his name to propagate his values.
Former Chancellor K. Kulanthaivelu and Vice Chancellor Bharathi Harishankar praised Dr Mahalingam as a multifaceted personality and pointed out his contribution to the field of literature and spiritual science. Dr Bharathi urged students to follow his footsteps for a bright future.
