The Madras High Court on Tuesday rejected the interim applications filed by expelled AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) and his supporters against the party’s general secretary election.
The Justice K Kumaresh Babu dismissed the petitions filed by OPS and his supporters PH Manoj Pandian, R Vaithilingam and JCD Prabhakaran seeking a stay on the election to elect the general secretary of the party and challenging the resolutions passed by the general council meeting that took place on July 11, 2022.

Shortly after the petitions were dismissed, the AIADMK’s election in-charge Natham R Viswanathan and Pollachi V Jayaraman announced Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) as the general secretary of the party. They handed over the elected certificate to EPS at party headquarters at Royapettah in the city. Supporters of EPS took to streets and celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
The Supreme Court on February 23, upheld the Madras High Court’s order validating the resolutions of the general council of the party. The Court has set aside a single bench order that was passed in favour of OPS and then OPS moved the Apex Court.
Following the raise in demand for single leadership among the party cadres, the general council met on July 11 and elected EPS as the interim general secretary of the party and expelled OPS and his supporters from the party. OPS, who held the post of party treasurer, was replaced by Dindigul Sriniv
