EPS' clever move in capturing the AIADMK leadership

O. Panneerselvam's side filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the decision of the AIADMK General Committee. The Supreme Court, which gave a verdict in this case, ordered that Edappadi Palanichamy (EPS) will be elected as the interim general secretary in the July 11, 2022 General Council meeting of the AIADMK and O. Panneerselvam (OPS) will be removed from the party. Edappadi Palaniswami has been celebrated by his supporters for acting like a horse in the AIADMK chess game over the last 5 years, sidelining Sasikala and O. Panneerselvam.

And the AIADMK has now gone completely under Edappadi Palaniswami's control. This is a huge win for the Edappadi Palaniswami team. Edappadi Palaniswami is very excited by this verdict. Meanwhile O. Panneer Selvam's team is in shock. And what does the future hold for his teammates including O. Panneerselvam? The question has arisen. 

With the support of 60 MLAs, most of the district secretaries and more than 2,300 general committee members in the AIADMK, Edappadi Palanichamy will soon be chosen as the official General Secretary, succeeding MGR and Jayalalithaa. The growth of Edappadi Palaniswami in AIADMK has been very fast in the last 5 years. When Sasikala was convicted in the asset hoarding case, Edappadi Palaniswami's hand was tipped.

And Edappadi Palaniswami began to skillfully use the support of the majority of MLAs in the party and the subtlety of retaining them. Edappadi Palaniswami, who completed his 4-year rule as Chief Minister, raised his status among the party as the best leader. After that last year, Edappadi Palanichami has implemented what he wanted through the Supreme Court's decision, after he removed O. Panneerselvam from the party and removed him.

Edappadi Palaniswami was very clear in his decision. He does not hesitate to take concreted decisions. On the contrary, O. Panneerselvam has been dependent on the BJP since he was the Deputy Chief Minister. 
But Edappadi Palaniswami did not submit to anyone. Unlike O. Panneerselvam, he is not close to BJP. Didn't get any advice from them. He also openly stated that the alliance will be led by AIADMK in the 2024 parliamentary elections. But O. Panneerselvam is not like that. He asked BJP for many suggestions. He even depended on the BJP to field a candidate in the Erode East by-election. An example of this is when he said that he would withdraw his candidate if  BJP fielded a candidate.

In this way, O. Panneerselvam's activity was unstable for more than 6 years. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this left him sidelined from the party and paved the way for Edappadi Palaniswami's hand.
For the AIADMK, Edappadi Palaniswami's modesty has won him victory. Just as MGR meant  AIADMK and Jayalalitha stood for AIADMK, today AIADMK is Edappadi Palaniswami. Let the AIADMK function again as a strong opposition party in Tamil Nadu!
