Erode Corpn asks Govt to reduce property tax hike

Erode Corporation adopted an unanimous resolution urging the government to reduce the property tax following strong protest from all 60 councillors in the council in the last meeting in which zone 4 president Kurinji Dandapani moved a resolution against tax hike and it was passed unanimously.

Citing it Corporation mayor Nagarathinam Subramaniam asked the government to reduce the tax.
Attending the meeting, as chief guest Erode East MLA VC Chandrakumar said that ''the Centre asked all local bodies to increase their revenue so that only the tax was hiked. During his poll campaign, many people blamed the councillors for tax hike. But they should not be blamed for the hike. Now, as per their wish, the resolution seeking reduction of tax was passed. The government would definitely consider it''.
Councillors express their wrath
We are not able to go to wards if the tax is not reduced said many councillors in the urgent meeting of the the corporation.

Zonal presidents Palanisamy Kurinji Dandapani, councillors Saburama, Thangamuthu, Kumaravel, Nandhagopu, Adhi Sreedhar, Jagannathan, etc said the tax in Erode is much high than the much developed Coimbatore, and Tiruchi corporations. The garbage tax was also much high. There is lot of anomalies in the property tax fixation. Besides the penalty of 1  percent interest every month for non payment of tax and 6 percent hike in tax every year is hit people much. So, the penalty and 6 percent hike should be withdrawn. Otherwise we could not meet voters during assembly poll.
