The UGC (University Grants Commission) has announced that 20 fake universities are operating in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi.
These universities are liberally awarding degrees.
Those degrees are not employable. Cannot study higher education. But innocent students study in fake universities and get unrecognized degrees. They spend money, waste years and lose their lives as if they have a witch in their own castle.
Delhi tops list of fake universities There are 8 fake universities functioning in Delhi including All India Institute of General and Health Sciences, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, University of Commerce, Daryaganj Commercial University, United Nations University, Adhyatmi' Visvidyalaya, ATR.
Similarly, the UGC has listed 20 fake universities across the country like Sri Bodhi Academy of Higher Education in Puducherry, St. John's University in Kerala, Belgaum University in Karnataka and advised not to join them. It has also been advised that action will be taken if a complaint is lodged.
It is mostly poor and rural students who get fooled by such bogus universities. UGC has been ringing alarm bells every year by listing fake universities. All of them have the same goal of extorting money.
Students continue to lose their lives by joining fake universities without warning. Can this cruelty happen? Let it happen?
Can't the UGC, which identifies these as bogus universities, voluntarily shut down those fakes to the point where they don't function? Is warning enough?
If the food is not of good quality, immediate action is taken to close and seal the restaurant. In that case, can't these fake universities, which drag the lives of students into the grave, be sealed? Can't turn it off completely?
For example ``All these places operate are fake gun factories. Will the police issue a warning saying 'Don't be fooled by buying them'? If it is reported that a fake gun is being manufactured somewhere, the police will not wait for the complaint and take action and make the fake gun factory unaccounted for?
Similarly, the UGC should consult with the Union Government and make arrangements to conduct closures for fake universities without waiting for students' complaints.
Not one of them should be next year to publish a list of fake universities.
Will UGC step up and do its duty?
