Several farmers belonging to the Kizbavani Irrigation Protection Movement besieged the Erode PWD Office and demanded proper water distribution in the Kizbavani ayacut. They led by movement coordinators Ravi, Sengottiah and Venkatachalam said the ryots beyond Mangalapatti did not get adequate water for over 5000 acres due to artificial water shortage was created by the officials though the dam has over 100 ft of water since the water was released on August 12 for 1.035 lakh acre.
But , they did not release 2300 cusecs of water from the dam in the canal as per the norm. Water is being wasted in the Second No canal areas without need. By this way, the officials are planning to concretise the canal in spite of the opposition of majority ryots of the ayacut. If adequate water is not released in all areas for the Nanjai crops, they will again picket PWD office on Thursday, they threatened.
