First time in Independent India

5.22 lakh acres of lands will be benefited for Kuruvai cultivation with the opening of the Mettur Dam. A new achievement has been made with the opening by Chief Minister 
M.K Stalin for the Kuruvai cultivation by farmers in the Cauvery delta.

Now good rains are pouring in the Cauvery catchments there is inflow to Mettur Dam. As on May 24, the water level of Mettur Dam was 117.760 feet and the storage is 89.92 tmcft. It is expected that Mettur Dam will achieve its full water level soon
Tamilnadu Chief Minister has opened the Mettur Dam ahead of the scheduled date June 12 for cultivation of Kuruvai crops.

In the last 88 years the dam was opened like this before June 12 in the year  1936, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, 1942. 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947. Due to floods the dam was opened before June 12 in the year 2011. It was only in 1947 it was opened in May. After independence this is the first time the Mettur Dam is being opened in the month of May for delta irrigation making farmers happy.Congrats to the Chief Minister
