Flower show attracts tourists in Yercaud

The Flower Show was the major attraction in the 46th Sumer Festival which began in Yercaud on Sunday.
K.N Nehru, the Minister for Muncipal Administration and M.R.K Paneerselvam, the minister for Agriculture inaugurated the flower show and the Fruit Show at the Anna Park.
The Flower Show featured attractive floral decorations in various shapes and styles, such as the Ponniyin Selvan Ship, Dragon Warrior, Chotta Bheem, and Honey Bheem. 
These decorations employed up to 5 lakh flowers including rare types such as zerbera, coronation, anthurium, and orchid. The flower gallery  of 10,000 flower pots of various varieties such as delias, zenias, marigold, torinium, salvia was a major draw.
An important sidelight during the flower show was a fruit show showcasing hill grown fruit varietals. 
An exhibition of schemes and projects implemented by several government ministries is also planned. 
For the first time the Anna Park and the Lake Park were illuminated with colorful lights and moving lights. 
A special private bus was launched for eco-tourism trips. 
The bus will go around important spots in the Sheveroyan hills. Food and snacks are provided to the tourists and is being charged with the bus travel fee.
Several amuszements, culturals and sporting events and contests are being arranged on all the 8 days of the summer festival. 
These include hill trek, handball match between locals and tourists, rope pulling competition, boat race, cricket match, healthy baby contest, tradtional food cookery contest, kolam art competition, dog show, music, drama and film screening. 
Special buses are being arranged from Salem to Yercaud and also for sightseeing within Yercaud.
