An inquiry will soon be conducted and action will be taken based on the complaint about the sale of adulterated cooking oil in Anthiyur area. Complaints about adulterated, substandard edible oil production and sale can be reported to the Food Safety Department through WhatsApp number 9444042322. It is stated that some of the oil shops in Anthiyur area sell coconut oil for Rs.100 to Rs.150 per liter. As it is available at a low price, the people living in Bargur hill areas are buying and using this oil without realizing the danger.
Edible oil is sold at Rs.100 to Rs.150. This low-cost oil is used in the restaurants in Anthiyur and Bargur hill areas. Due to this, not only the people of the hilly areas, but also the tourists are forced to suffer health problems. Various chemicals are mixed in adulterated oil. Coconut oil is infused with a chemical called white mineral oil. Pure coconut oil freezes when the temperature drops.
Coconut oil is highly viscous. Blended oil does not. Mineral oil, which is odorless, colorless, and non-glutinous, is produced after separating materials such as gasoline, cooking gas, diesel, and tar from crude oil. This oil is mixed with cooking oil. While a liter of pure ghee or oil sells for over Rs 250, adulterated ghee or oil costs between Rs 100 and Rs 150.
