Former AIADMK MLA booked in disproportion case, DVAC raid at 26 locations

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a case against former Namakkal MLA KPP Baskar and his wife Uma for amassing wealth worth Rs 4.72 crore in disproportion to their known sources of income between April 28, 2016 and March 15, 2021. 

Subsequently, DVAC sleuths have launched search operations at 26 locations - 24 locations in Namakkal, one location each in Madurai and Tirupur. 

Baskar was a two-time MLA from 2011 to 2021 and he is known to be the close associate of former Chief Minister and AIADMK’s interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

The FIR said, Baskar has amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 4,72,23,539 in his and his wife’s name and it is disproportionate to known sources of income. The amassed wealth is 315% of the total income of the said period, it added.

In April, 2016, Rs 1.86 crore was in the possession of pecuniary resources and properties of Baskar and in March 2021, it has increased to Rs 7.47 crore. Baskar and his family members’ income from known sources were Rs 1.49 crore, their expenses were Rs 61.15 lakh, and their likely savings were Rs 88.62 lakhs. But he and his family members acquired assets to the tune of Rs 5.60 crores, it read.

Following the case, on Friday, DVAC sleuths launched extensive searches at 26 locations, including 24 in Namakkal, including his residence; one location each in Madurai and in Tirupur.
