From Olympic setback to political triumph

From Olympic setback to political triumph

Despite facing numerous challenges in both the protest grounds and the Olympic wrestling ring, Vinesh Phogat, the newly elected Congress MLA, overcame obstacles with renewed strength and emerged victorious, backed by the support of the people.
Although the BJP has secured power in Haryana for the third consecutive time, Vinesh Phogat’s victory as a Congress candidate has become a national talking point. On August 6, during the Olympic wrestling competition in the 50 kg category, Vinesh was expected to win gold for India but was disqualified due to a 100-gram weight increase. Disheartened, she announced her retirement from wrestling, declaring that she no longer had the strength to fight.
Soon after, Vinesh chose her next battleground. Within a month of her disqualification, on September 6, she met Rahul Gandhi and officially joined the Congress party.
Like in wrestling, Vinesh faced hurdles in the political arena. Despite internal opposition within the party, she contested as the Congress candidate in the Julana constituency. In the 2019 election, the Congress candidate had secured only 12,000 votes.
However, this time, Vinesh garnered 65,080 votes, defeating BJP's Yogesh Kumar by over 6,000 votes.
Overcoming challenges in her personal life, wrestling, and protests, Vinesh Phogat put her faith in the people, defying criticism and contesting in the election.
Her victory has garnered praises from all quarters, and people are celebrating her success.
Vinesh Phogat stands as an inspiration, showing how obstacles can be turned into stepping stones.
