FSSAI officials destroy 25 tons of fruits

As per the instruction of Coimbatore Collector Krantikumar Pati, FSSAI officials led by Coimbatore district FSSAI designated officer Dr K Thamizhselvan seized 22.5 ton mangoes and 2.5 ton sathukudis from the fruit shops of Coimbatore town by conducting a surprise raid on Wednesday following the traders used chemicals to ripen the fruits, which could cause many health problems to the consumers. 
They destroyed the fruits worth about Rs 12.5 lakhs. 
The raid was conducted by 18 officers in 16 shops and godowns in Vaisiyaal Road, Periya Kadai Road, Pavala Road, Karuppanagounder Road, Muthu Vinayakar Kovil Road, Dharmaraja Kovil Road, Kempaty Colony Road. 
They appealed to the public to inform the FSSAI through phone 94440 42322 about usage of chemicals in ripening fruits to take necessary action
