Govt urged to use TP land to build memorial for Kumaran

TMC general secretary and former Kangayam MLA Vidiyal Sekar demanded construction of  a memorial for freedom fighter Tirupur Kumaran in his native place at Chennimalai without delay. After garlanding Kumaran statue at Chennimalai town on Tuesday, he said already public donated 1.37 acre to the Chennimalai town panchayat where a large area is vacant even now. When he was MLA in 2006-11 itself, he pressed the demand in the Assembly many times as local MLA and at that time itself, an effort was made to use the land to build the memorial. But, the dream was not yet fructified , he rued.

He urged the government to announce a massive housing project for handloom weavers in the name of Kumaran, who was also a weaver, on the model of allotting 10000 green houses by late CM Jayalalithaa. in 2011-16. Even now, many weaver members of coop societies were much poor due to low wages and inadequate job orders. , Only aged persons are  in the field.

They are longing for a health insurance scheme to get medical relief for major and regular ailments. Their 130 point DA benefit should be merged with basic pay, which was pending for several decades as done for government staff, and pay and DA revision should be made. Then only, the poor weavers could get due relief, and the handloom sector would survive, he opined.
