Headache for Edappadi K Palanisamy ?

Edappadi Palanisamy is currently backed by a large number of members, including district secretaries, general body and  MLAs. Therefore, Edappadi Palanisamy is adamant that he will convene the AIADMK General Body on July 11 and assume the post of General Secretary somehow.

On the other hand O.Paneerselvam (OPS) says that despite the strength of most executives, cadres were on his side. Legal experts say that there is a big problem in Edappadi Palanisamy becoming the General Secretary on July 11. They also say that the OPS has some of the biggest advantage at its disposal. What is it?

 The first mistake made by the Edappadi side was to reject all the 23 resolutions. Only after reading the resolutions, it should be rejected. Hence it has become a legal flaw.  Secondly since the OPS proposed the resolutions let us assume that it meant reading it. The posts of Coordinator and Co-Coordinator cannot be said to have expired as the doing away with the posts did not figure in the resolutions. OPS hence is technically still the coordinator. As such, it is still up to the OPS to approve the party’s General Body meeting. 

The next General Body meeting announcement was made by Thamizmagan Hussein who was selected as the Avai Thalivar (Presidium Chairman). It is not legally valid. However if in case it is valid, the General Body does not have to be convened the OPS and it is enough of the Avai Thalaivar convenes it. But the approval of Coordinator and Joint Coordinator are necessary.All 23 resolutions were rejected in the last General Body meeting. 

The first of these approving all elections of the party, including the Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator, District, Panchayat Union, and General Assembly elections. By rejecting this, election approval resolution of all the members of the General Body meeting lose their posts.Suppose they make the argument that they did not lose their offices then the coordinator and co-coordinator have not lost their posts too. They will also continue in office. 

The General Body therefore has the power to convene the General Body Meeting  When all this is examined, it seems that Edappadi Palanisamy has to untangle several knotty issues.  Meanwhile, OPS has begun a tour of the Southern Districts. If the BJP supports the OPS, it is also expected to turn against Edappadi. Now all eyes are on the July 11 General Body meeting. Will the vexing issues regarding the leadership reach a flashpoint and end in a painful transition? We have to wait for the outcome.
