Headload workers seek job security

Headload workers seek job security

Headload workers belonging to various trade unions filed a petition at Erode SP office seeking job security to them.  Various headload workers unions leaders R Manoharan, Deivanayagam, Thangavel,  and Muniappan  in their petition said: there are more than 12,000 load workers in our unions and for the last 50 years we have been negotiating with the cloth merchant, goods transport, powerloom associations for wage hikes and bonus periodically.

But for the last four to five years Erode Goods Transport Association has approached  court to affect the livelihood of the workers. Even though, Erode RDO invited it for talks, it rejected the order.  On November 15, a truck company called VRL Logistics sacked 7 employees without paying them Diwali bonus. The company assured to give it after  police intervention.

Indian workers

But, it hired north Indian workers. The load workers went on strike two days ago when an executive of the Goods Transport Association rammed his  two-wheeler on the workers. So, some workers attacked him. Four workers also injured and are in the government hospital.

Therefore, the  SP should take necessary action to protect the livelihood of the workers, check engaging north Indian wirkers at low wages in place of local workers and maintain law and order in the town by holding talks with both the parties, they pleaded.
