The city police mandated wearing helmets for pillion bike riders and prohibited using air horns in the city. The norms come to effect from June 26.
The city police, in a statement, said, “It has been decided to take legal action under the motor vehicle act against those who use air horns in their vehicles. Multiple teams comprising officials from the city police, traffic police and pollution control board were formed to strictly implement the norms. Vehicles users were advised to remove air horns from their vehicles including buses, lorries and cars immediately. Action would be taken against those who continue to use air horns in their vehicles from Monday.”
The statement also said that pillion riders were mandated to wear helmets in a move to prevent accidents on roads and stringent action would be taken against violators.
A week-long awareness programme would be organized at the traffic park in the city.
