Names of various places in Delhi are being changed. Existing street names that refer to the British and Mughals are being changed.
Recently, the central government ordered to change the name of the Mughal garden in the President's House to ``Amrit Udyan''. Opposition parties criticized the name change as Mughal refers to Mughal rullers.
It is in this context that the famous Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in Delhi has been renamed. Accordingly the name of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library has been changed to Prime Minister Museum and Library (PMML) Society. This was confirmed by Nirbendra Mishra who is the chairman of the management committee of the museum and library.
The name change has come into effect as the country celebrated its 77th Independence Day. The Congress party strongly protested against the removal of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's name.
``Some people are trying to hide Nehru's fame by removing Nehru from the buildings named after him in India. But Nehru will remain in people's minds through his actions for India,'' the Congress party said.
Nehru was the first Prime Minister of independent India. Can anyone forget the sacrifices he made for the country? Can you deny it? What is the need to remove the name of that noble leader who is revered next to Mahatma Gandhi? Not only the Congress party but the people of the country will never accept this.
No matter how many times the name is changed, no one can destroy Nehru's fame. No matter how many generations, ``Mama Nehru'' will remain in the hearts of Indian children.
How do you feel about removing Nehru's name?
