The Isha Cauvery Calling movement aims to plant 12.1 million trees in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry this year. Marking World Environment Day, inauguration ceremonies for the tree planting activities took place in various districts of Tamil Nadu. Key ministers, Members of Parliament, legislators, and City Mayors participated as special guests, planting saplings and distributing them to farmers.
The event kicked off in Pollachi, Coimbatore, on May 23, with Member of Parliament K. Shanmugasundaram planting the first sapling. Subsequently, Minister K.N. Nehru inaugurated the planting in Tiruchirappalli, Minister M. P. Saminathan in Tirupur, and Minister S. Muthusamy in Erode. They all planted saplings and distributed them to the farmers.
Minister Mano Thangaraj in Kanyakumari, Minister Geetha Jeevan in Thoothukudi, and Minister Moorthy in Madurai also participated in ceremonies conducted across the state.
In total, tree-planting events were held in 92 locations across 37 districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Over 200,000 saplings were planted on 610 acres of agricultural land as part of this initiative. So far, 955,000 saplings have been planted on agricultural lands in this financial year.
