Income Tax (IT) department on Thursday conducted search operations at 40 locations that are associated with DMK MP and former union minister S Jagathrakshakan across the state.

Search operations are being carried out at 40 locations including the MP’s house at Adyar, hotel at T Nagar, his office at T Nagar and his relatives house at Ekkattuthangal and Chrompet in the city.
This apart, raids are also carried out at Balaji medical college, Rela hospital and Tagore arts college at Chrompet, Savitha educational groups at Poonamallee and a medical college near Puducherry that are associated with Jagathrakshakan.
IT sleuths broke open the lock of a house that belonged to Jagathrakshakan at Pattabiram near Avadi since the house was locked when they visited, and began their raid.
The search operation is carried out in connection with suspected financial irregularities and potential tax evasion activities.
In 2020, Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched properties belonging to Jagathrakshakan and his relatives based on a money laundering complaint and for illegal foreign investments.
The ED also froze properties worth Rs 89.19 crore.
