KMCH hosts Organ Transplant Meet

The Kovai Medical Centre Hospital (KMCH) conducted  a conference, Imaging and Intervention Organ Transplantation on August 20, which is first of its kind in India, with an aim to bring together radiologists and physicians involved in transplant with the idea that they can share their knowledge and also start a society for transplantation to ensure that different departments across the country are helped by departments who have great experience in this area.

The Organising Secretary of the meet, Dr. Venkatesh said that this was indeed a great moment for the city of Coimbatore to have taken this leadership in starting a new association in India to address this need. He also mentioned that a society dedicated to organ transplants across the body does not exist anywhere in the world and he hoped that this model would be an example for others to follow.

KMCH Chairman Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami said that KMCH  has pioneered several transplant treatment options in this country and especially was a leader in steroid-free kidney transplants which was started by
Dr. Vivek Pathak in this hospital. Dr. Arun Palanaiswami said that this was one of the few hospitals in the country where transplantation was not limited to the kidney and the liver but also the heart, lungs, bone marrow and pancreas.
