June 27 was declared as the World Microbiome Day (WMD) in 2019 by the Group of Scientists working on microbiome research. The major objective of World Microbiome Day is to increase awareness on microbiome and its beneficial activities.
KMCH Research Foundation (KMCHRF) organizes World Microbiome Day Annual Lecture Series from the year 2021. The previous WMD lectures were delivered by: Aran Singanayagam, Imperial College, London, (2021), Prof. Yogesh Shouch, National Centre for Cell Science, Pune (2022) and Prof. Mithieux Gilles, INSERM, University of Lyon, France (2023).
This year’s annual lecture was organized on 05th July (Friday), 2024. Dr. S. Mohanraj Scientist, KMCHRF welcomed the participants highlighting the role of KMCHRF in spreading awareness on the importance of microbiome. The Founding Trustee of KMCHRF, Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami explained the vision of KMCHRF and also about the evolving scenario of microbiome in human health. The Executive Director, Dr. Arun Palaniswami offered the address to the students. Dr. Arulraj Ramakrishnan, from KMCHRF explained the research activities of KMCHRF on microbiome and the recent successful faecal microbiota transplantation for infectious diarrheal disease in KMCH Hospital.
The annual lecture this year was delivered by our distinguished guest, Prof. Punyasloke Bhadury from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata on “Ocean microbiome for sustainability”.
