A special legal aid camp for tribal hill people was held at Arepalayam and Khedesal village near Asanoor next to Thalavadi on Monday. State Human Rights Commission Judge S. Bhaskaran and District Collector Krishnanunny presided.
The hill dwellers demanded land patta and monthly stipend. They demanded permit to collect minor forest produce such as seemar grass, kalpasam, honey and gooseberry in the forest, a warehouse to store the collected materials, tar roads, trenches and wire fence to prevent elephants to enter agricultural lands and damage agricultural crops and bus facilities to the villages both morning and evening. It said so. Responding to this, Collector promised to consider the demands and take appropriate action. District Superintendent of Police Sasimohan, District Forest Officer Krupa Shankar, and many others attended.
