Lessons from bridge colapses in Bihar

Lessons from bridge colapses in Bihar

While a 150-year-old bridge collapsed in Saran district, a part of the bridge built 15 years ago across the Kandaki river in the same district collapsed yesterday causing shock. These series of incidents have created fear among people. In addition, questions about the quality of the collapsed bridges are strongly raised.

State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has issued an important announcement regarding the series of bridge collapse accidents. Bihar has appointed a high-level committee to study the quality of newly constructed bridges and the current construction status as well as the quality of old bridges across the state and submit a report. Public works department of the state has been strongly blamed by the people for collapsing of bridges due to substandard construction made of substandard construction materials and lack of maintenance.

The incidents of bridge collapse in Bihar should be a lesson not only to the state but also to other states. The incidents of Bihar show that the Central and State Governments should be involved in extreme measures so that not only the bridges that are being built across the country, but also the bridges that are going to be built, are strong.

Precaution is very important!
